Midget MD Championships Wrap Up in London
Stratford, ON - The 2016 Midget MD season officially came to a close this past weekend as the London Bandits hosted the 2016 MD Midget Championships in London. The Championships saw all 8 MD Midget teams participating in a two-tiered round robin competition followed by the respective semi-final and final series.
The Tier 1 round robin play was exciting and very close as confirmed by the first game of the year-end tournament that featured OT followed by a shoot-out between the North London Nationals and Cambridge Hawks. The Nationals edged out the Hawks with a 4-3 win. The Tier 1 pool play standings ended with a tie for first place and a tie for third place setting up two great semi-finals. The final match up featured the Cambridge Hawks versus the Waterloo Wolves with the action-packed game concluding with the Hawks defeating the Wolves by a score of 1-0 to take the 2016 Tier 1 Midget MD Championship title.
The Tier 2 round robin play proved just as exciting with some close games and thrilling action. Semi-final wins by the West London Hawks and the Hamilton Huskies set the stage for their final meeting of the Championships on Sunday. In another close match up, the Hawks pulled away with a 3-1 win over the Huskies to take the 2016 Tier 2 Midget MD Championship title.
